Kristel Karnilova, 24-year-old British ballerina of the Continental Ballet, practices steps from "Swan Lake" on the rocks of Porthcurno, near Lands End, which the stage setting closely resembles. Her home is in the valley above the cove and she is know to people there by her private name, Miss Anne Cleaver. Anne's father, W. E. The deck of H.T.M.S 'Monarch'

The U.K. Post Office's cable-laying ship H.T.M.S 'Monarch', under charter to Cable and Wireless Ltd., to lay the first 700 miles of the Commonwealth round-the-world telephone cable, which could carry sixty simultaneous telephone conversations. The first section of the cable ran from Oban, Scotland, to Hampden, Newfoundland, a distance of 2, 100 miles. Photographed here are (left to right): Dr. R.A. Ice covered telegraph pole, Dorchester

Ice formation on the aerial tail support at Dorchester Station caused by exceptionally severe weather conditions. All the aerials, more than 200 miles in length, and many of the masts at Cable and Wireless transmitting station, Dorchester were brought to the ground. The Company's Wireless Receiving station at nearby Somerton was similarly affected. PHO///7963
